Description:

Our home network consists of a full Ubiquiti hardware stack all the way from the routing to the wireless. The network is 10Gb capable, with the storage and VM servers connecting in a 10Gb, the switch uplinks running at 10Gb (where available), and a couple of Mac machines running as 10Gb clients. The two AC Pro access points are inside, one on the North end of the house and one on the South end of the house. The two AC Mech access points are outside, under the eaves on the East and West sides of the house. This provides wifi throughout the house and in the yards, and almost to the bus stop. Our house is supplied with a 1000/1000 connection from a local fiber company.

Uses:

The home network supports high speed network connections that are handy for moving our photo and video work around the network between the editing setup and the storage server, and allows the VM’s in the homelab to communicate quickly with each other as well as perform services on/with the data stored on the main storage server. The 10Gb backbone helps relieve bottlenecks in that regard.
