Day 3 of Service

Note: This is a legacy blog post; photos are not available

Today the team woke up and went to their respective places to serve.  The stories as usual are below.  After we got done working we used our free night to go to Santa Monica where we saw the Pacific Ocean at sunset and ate at Bubba Gumps.  We walked around the different shopping areas as took in the atmosphere.  We wrapped up the evening with devotion as we prepare for our last day of service tomorrow.  Because of the nature of our work today, it was not conducive to take photos, so we only have one for today.  Hope you enjoy and thanks for the prayers!!Team A: Today our group served at the Los Angeles Food  Bank where we put together boxes of food for senior citizens.  Each box contained thirty pounds of food to be distributed to seniors in Los Angeles County.  When the day was over, our group and the other volunteers had put together 1400 boxes which totaled 51,000 pounds (25.5 tons).  While serving today we were able to see an organization that was providing massive amounts of food for people in need, and came to the realization that this is still not enough to feed the people of Los Angeles.Team 1: Today our group got the chance to visit Project Angel Food (www.angelfood.org). We had heard a lot about Project Angel Food from the other group and we were excited to volunteer there. We assisted in the preparation and packaging of over 1,000 meals and other food items for individuals suffering from HIV/AIDS and other terminal illnesses. While the volunteer work was humbling in itself, we were also blessed to meet the regular volunteers that were there with us. Even though we had traveled from Illinois to volunteer, we saw how significant the support of a community can be. Each of the regular volunteers were more than ready to share their experiences and each story was unique in the way that it tied them to the organization. We left Project Angel Food not only feeling more faithful in Christ, but also feeling more faithful in the good of humanity.
