Description:
My main desk setup consists of a Mac Studio and two arm mounted Apple Pro Display XDR 6K Monitors. The whole set up is bolted to a 2 x 12 piece of lumber that it, itself is bolted to the wall across 4 different studs. This setup was put in place in Late Spring of 2025 and was the successor to a 2017 27” iMac Pro that had two LG UltraFine displays connected to it, so a move from 3 x 5K displays to 2 x 6K displays was made which has been fantastic. The arm mount setup has been great as it keeps the desk clear and encourages me to keep things simple and out of the way while I work. The Mac Studio connects into my home network via a 10GbE link which greatly improves access to the storage server. This machine sits on a custom desk I’ve made that consists of a large 72” wide black table top resting on top of two 15U server racks that combined contain my Apple Xserve collection providing a fun and unique desk area.
Uses:
This is the main edit/render station for all my photo and video work. Also the setup has lots of screen real estate which while very useful for the photo and video work, comes in very handy for doing code work as well. I can have a multitude of terminal windows open along with web pages and other consoles to allow me to see everything I’m doing while working on standing up/learning to deploy a new service on my home lab described on my “Main Home Rack” page.
